GPU Core compatibility question for MSI RTX 5080 16G SHADOW 3X OC (V531-003R)

Hello,

does the "Alphacool Core MSI RTX 5080 Reference with backplate" also fit for the GeForce RTX 5080 16G SHADOW 3X OC (V531-003R) card?
I have heard that the MSI RTX 5080 16G "SHADOW" in general is a black "Ventus". Is that right? Is it the same layout so this core cooler fits?

Compatibility chart says (Item number: 10248) :

- MSI GeForce RTX™ 5070 Ti 16G VENTUS 3X OC (V531-092R)
- Inno3D GeForce RTX™ 5080 iChill Frostbite (C50803-16D7X-1760FB)
- Inno3D GeForce RTX™ 5080 iChill X3 (C50803-16D7X-176069H)
- Inno3D GeForce RTX™ 5080 X3 (N50803-16D7-176068N)
- Inno3D GeForce RTX™ 5080 X3 OC (N50803-16D7X-17603930)
- Inno3D GeForce RTX™ 5080 X3 OC White (N50803-16D7X-17605211)
- MSI GeForce RTX™ 5080 16G SHADOW 3X OC (G5080-16S3C)
- MSI GeForce RTX™ 5080 16G VENTUS 3X OC (V531-095R)
- MSI GeForce RTX™ 5080 16G VENTUS 3X OC Plus (V531-001R)

Thank you so far!

Regards,

I can't answer that question at the moment. We have the graphics card here and will take a look at it to decide whether a current cooler is compatible or whether we need to make a new one. There will be a suitable cooler in any case. But that could take weeks in the worst case.

You can simply check the configurator from time to time yourself. I can't keep track of all the channels and every thread I write in. I am also active on all the social media channels and other platforms.

AFAIK, there's only one type of Shadow, which share the same PCB of the Ventus. Before purchasing the block I've compared pictures and pulled the trigger in the 10248 reference block. It fits, and it works, even before Alphacool put it in the compatibility list.

HOWEVER, or I am unlucky (have in mind I've installed and ran tons of gpu blocks) or my block is defective.

The end of the card warps hard. There is a gap in between the pcb and the nut standoff of the block. If you tighten the screws more to close this gap, the pcb will warp even more. I've opened a ticked to see what is going on.

Gap of the nut standoff I mentioned without tightening the screws..

And if you tight the screws to close this gap like this.....

This happens..

Yep, I also believe the same. However that's @Alphacool to sort not me, as they have the card listed as compatible with the block.
I've never had any other block but Bykski, about 5 of them along the last 6-7 years. When I decide to spend 80GBP more in a block, is a half baked one.. :p

Is it only one standoff, that has the contact problem? Can you measure the height of them? Are you sure you removed all the plastic spacers from the standoffs?
There are 6 standoffs, witch one or ones have the problem?
I have a 5080 Ventus x3 OC, and I`m waiting for the same block.

No. All four around the core don't make contact. Measuring the height will be difficult, I don't plan on opening it up again before hearing from alphacool. Yes all spacers were removed.

Hope that helps

That's completely fine. If you're already in touch with support, I'll stay out of it from here. Otherwise, we just end up talking at cross purposes and that only leads to confusion.

Any chance for an update soon? MSI dropped a bunch of those cards around Europe but they are all listed as V531-003R unlike cards sold in US/Asia (G5080-16S3C). It seems very likely they are all exactly the same but I'd be great to have an official confirmation regarding block's compatibility before purchase.

I bought a V531-003R, and I'm pretty sure it has the same PCB, but I'm also waiting for confirmation.

At the moment, we can only confirm with certainty what we specify in the configurator. We cannot confirm all other PCB layouts and numbers with certainty. We do not have all cards and all models here. And we do not currently have optical confirmation either.

Got my 5080 (V531-003R) and box came with a sticker on it:
G5080-16S3C
PN: 912-V531-003

At this point I think it's safe to say G5080-16S3C and V531-003R are one and the same. It seems that G5080-XXX are used as product codes and you can find those listed on MSI's specification pages while V531-XXX scheme is used by sellers (including official MSI shop).

You might want to check this about the Shadow, even if MSI confirmed to me it shares the same PCB as the Ventus...

P.S.: I've tried two different 5080 Shadows BTW.
