Evening all!

It's been a little while since I put a build together. 2024 was full of ups and downs, mainly downs regarding family, sadly. TLDR is that my mum died, dad had a stroke, and my wife had an op, all within around 9 weeks, so I had a load to deal with and couldn't really be modding with work and everything else that was going on.

Now though, we have moved on, and it's time to get back to something fun, so, let me introduce you to the Porsche Motorsport themed build!

The vibe on this will be in tune with my previous Valentino Rossi Yamaha-based Antec Torque, one of my favourite builds. For this, we will be going with a be quiet! Light Base 900, with a host of other goodies from my friends at be quiet!.

Some parts just dropped in today, I am still waiting for the case to arrive before I start uploading pics and detailing what will be happening on this one.

For now, just know I'm back, and this should hopefully turn out really pretty!

So I am still waiting on the case, so I might as well crack on with the build log.

First up, we had a parcel from be quiet!, this is the power supply and some case fans. The dog thought it was something for her, so naturally she was disappointed it wasn't full of treats!

The power supply we will be using is the be quiet! Dark Power 13, 1000W. This will be more than enough juice for this build, and be quiet! are renowned for making high-quality power supplies among other things.

We also have 2 packs of be quiet! 120mm Light Wings PWM fans. These triple packs include hubs, but the Light Base 900 also comes with one so we shouldn't be needed these. be quiet! have also sent some reverse Light Wings, but 140mm by mistake, so once that's rectified we will get some unboxed images on to the thread.

So we are still waiting on the delivery guy for the case. The plan is to get all the case mods done before I throw in some hardware. I'm keen to see just how easy the Light Base 900 is to strip down for what I have in mind for this build.

Well, the case has landed!

I'm busy on reviews tomorrow and friday, then away for the weekend at Soccer Aid, so I will get an update sorted early next week!

This thing is huge btw, such a great looking case!

So the be quiet! Light Base 900 has arrived, and boy, is it big!

First, the box seems to have got into a fight on the way here, but the contents are all ok!

When the packaging is removed, you get to see this amazing-looking case in all its glory, and it already has me thinking of what I want to do with the cooling runs in this one, theres loads of room to play with.

I know there are 3 ways to have this case sat on a desk, but I think I will stick with the traditional layout.

The GPU sag bracket and the folding 2.5 drive caddy to the rear are nice to have too.

So that's the Light Base 900, now we need to turn it into a Porsche edition!

Il cover fans and power supply next, I'm waiting to hear on a few things still, so progress may be a bit slow over the next couple of weeks.

So let's take a closer look at the PSU and the fans!

I've gone with the Dark Power 13 1000W, simply because I was advised that the Pro version won't fit in the Light Base 900. This seems a bit daft, one of their premier cases not being able to hold their high-end PSU, but it's fine, and the Dark Power 13 will be more than enough, the Pro version just adds that extra little wow factor!

Moving onto the fans, the Light Wings 120mm 3 in one pack also includes an ARGB hub, I do wish this included fan connectors also, rather than having to use 2 different connection points. I think it would just make sense to pack it all into 1 unit for convenience. Having said that, the Light Base 900 will take care of all this with the included hubs, so we won't need the ARGB hub anyway.

The next job to sort is the motherboard. I reached out to ASUS UIK to try and source a Z790 Formula. I think this would have been perfect for the build, but sadly they dont have one available. I'm still waiting to hear from a few other contacts, but if I can't get one, I may switch platforms to the Z890 series and opt for the Gigabyte Aorus Pro Ice. In my time modding and building, funnily enough, I have never used a Gigabyte board, so it might just be that this is the way to go. I still wish it could be the Formula, though!

Ok then, here we go!

One of the first things you can do when building a race car is to make it lighter, so that's exactly what I've been doing with the Light Base 900. This should add around 10mph to the build!

Joking aside, this case is well-built. It has taken me around an hour to strip it down, being careful not to break anything and ensuring I removed all the wiring cleanly without damaging or snagging anything.

The mountain of parts removed is insane, and I will be modding some of these too.

For the original silver trim, I think this will be vinyl-wrapped with a backlit Porsche logo at the top. It's a shame that the silver part is plastic-welded to the bottom, as that would have made it easier to do what I need to with them.

The next step will be to remove the motherboard tray so it can undergo a paint job. I will let you guess what color it's going to be! I also need to place my Alphacool order. I wanted to use three 120mm X-Flow radiators at the bottom, but I think it will be a close fit to the front glass, so I might opt for 360mm radiators instead. I'm still undecided on a 420 or 360 distro too; it doesn't appear that Alphacool has listed a RH 420 yet, unless I'm mistaken, @Eddy?

So that's it for now, can't wait to get the tray back from paint and see how it looks in this.

Another quick update!

The motherboard tray and panels are out, ready for paint. I'm not sure how long it will take, as the powder coaters I use are generally really busy, so it may be a week or so before they are ready.

Excited to see these in their new coat!

So, while we wait for the paint, Intel has been kind enough to support me with a Core 7 265K for this, or perhaps another build I have in mind.

I am still undecided on motherboard, and if I can still grab a Formula, I will stick with Z790. If not, the Pro Ice for Gigabyte might work, but I may even hold off and make the motherboard decision as one of the last parts I install, after I have some of the Alphacool loop completed.

Granted, there isn't a great deal between the platforms; new tech is always lovely, but the priority is making sure this build looks and feels as it needs to be to stand out.

Speaking of standing out, I've ordered a Panasonic G7 and some new studio lights, which are essentially the same as what I used for KitGuru. I am no camera expert to say the least, but photos from a G7 over a Samsung S23 are night and day!

A quick update before the weekend, then, it's way too hot here in the UK to be building, so this will be it until it cools off a little bit!

So the panels are back from paint, and they look amazing. I've just spent some time getting them into position. I am now waiting for some hardware to turn up to secure the motherboard tray back into position before I can move on.

The bottom of the case also has the first trim in the carbon wrap; the front and top will be a little bit more difficult, so I will leave them for today. I also need to get the Cricut out for the Porsche Motorsport logo to be cut into the top one.

I will drop another update once the case is fully rebuilt before moving on to the internals. I've also received my new camera, so I'm looking forward to taking better photos than I can with my phone!

Another update then, albeit a small one!

I had a delivery of hardware to secure the motherboard tray. I always replace the rivets drilled out with M3 countersunk screws and Nylock nuts so that I know it won't vibrate loose.

One of the jobs I have tackled is the original silver trim. I wrapped the bottom piece in carbon, but the front and top proved more challenging than I initially thought, particularly when incorporating the Porsche Logo. I have stripped it back and repainted all the trims in black. It fits in well, and with the Porsche logo now backlit to the top, I can start adding a few of the sponsor logos.

I'm almost at the point where I will be waiting for my friends at Alphacool before I can do any more. I will explain my idea on the setup when the parts land, and then I can see what real estate I have for additional team sponsor logos and the layout.

For now, the case is all back together before we move on to the next steps!
