The gap between the front side of the PCB and the front cooler is 2.5mm. There is a small outdent on the front cooler for each memory chip (~ 0.75mm in height?) and the RAM chip is about 1mm off the PCB. That leaves ~ 0.75mm of space for the 1mm "ultra soft" pad to compress into. This seems OK...
