Alphacool HDX Pro - Restriction

Good morning all,

I have just purchased and received my Alphacool HDX Pro SSD Water Cooler, I have 2 questions which I am hoping someone can help me with.

I have noticed the supplied MCX 2x Distributor does not have any kind of restrictor in it, a recent review I watched of the HDX Pro shows the HCX with a restrictor plate, this obviously to force water down one of the 5/3mm hose. Has the restriction been removed as the one in the kit I have received has NO restriction??

Has anyone tried this HDX Pro? I am trying to cool my Crucial T705 which gets VERY hot and this is the only cooler that will work on an ASUS Maximus Z890 Hero.

Thanks all in advance.

I’m not sure what you mean by “plate.”
But you can see that the diameter right after the thread is much smaller — smaller than the usual 8 mm. This way, the water is redirected through the 5/3 mm fittings. But we’ve never had a “plate” in there; this has always been milled into the product.

Which video are you referring to?

Hi Eddy, thank you for your reply. My apologies, the word 'plate' was the best way I could think to describe the issue. As you pointed out, there is a smaller diameter hole milled into the HCX, smaller than the usual 8mm (1/4) thread for the fitting. I do not currently have a picture of the one I have received as I am at work, but the one I have has the same size bored hole all the way through! there is no smaller milled diameter hole as you see in this screenshot taken from a video I found on the net. I am unsure if I am allowed to post a link to this video? Thanks for your help Eddy

If you have time, please send a picture. There might actually be a production error in your case, but I’d need to see the picture to be sure. Where did you order it?

Hi Eddy, thank you. I have added a picture. This was purchased directly from Alphacool via the online shop. I live in Australia and it actually cost more 'ship' than it did to buy. :) but thats fine, there was not one available in Australia.

That’s really unfortunate. There should actually be a narrowing to 3.5 mm, if I remember correctly. Looks like they just drilled it all the way through. Great… I’m honestly not sure how I could help you here.

You could try contacting support, though. Maybe they can offer you some form of compensation or possibly an exchange. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

I’m just afraid that, like this, the water will hardly flow — if at all — through the M.2 cooler. PCIe 4 M.2 slots can supply up to around 24 W of power, which roughly corresponds to the maximum heat output of an SSD. That’s not a lot, but also not insignificant for an M.2. That doesn’t mean every SSD will draw the maximum power, though.

Hi Eddy, i was wondering if you could assist in getting just the HCX sent to me? I sent an online support requst through yesyerday but had no response. I dont need the whole kit, just the HCX. The cost to have this shipped was more than the part and would cost an excessive amount to not only return, but to get a whole kit sent out. Any help you could assist would be greatly appreciated. Cliff.

I really can’t do anything about it. Support will get back to you, but they have a lot of emails to handle. Keep in mind that we’re in a different time zone. It’s currently midday here, so you might not get a reply until tomorrow or the day after in your time zone.

I was just in the support office, and they had your email open. I recognized the picture. I think they’re currently figuring out how best to help you. Especially with Australia and the shipping costs, it’s not that simple. I expect you’ll have a reply within the next hour.
