White stuff in loop

Hi all,

I ran both my loop with demineralized water for a while and all was well great preformance.
Then i upgraded to ekwb cryofuel clear like i mostly use for last 15 years mostly use it for 1 year or more, then flush and clean.
but it only been 3 months so it should be clean and clear.

My loops
My cpu loop is all ekwb, accept the pump that alpha cool, and the liquid looks ok tubes are clear there some smallbubbles left but nothing to worry.
My gpu loop is mostly alphacool, rad, pump, gpu block accept ekwb fittings, and it not clear, its like millions of small bubbles look like.

I moved to new house, so my system got pretty much shaken up during transport, so i taught it would clear up.
But now 3 weeks later. I see this residue build up in my gpu block, and some discoloration in my tubes and pump still looks like millions of bubbles but when i zoom in on the pictures its more like staining or white sand or chalk.
I think it came out of the Radiator, after the move.

No idea what it is?
Any of you have a idea and some advice.

thanks for any help you can give

kind regards
David

Since you also sent the question directly to support, I’ll be a bit cheeky and just copy our reply from the email here into the forum as well. :)

The explanation is quite simple: these are deposits from the ingredients of the coolant. It looks bad, but it’s really nothing dramatic. The system just needs to be flushed thoroughly, ideally with a cleaning kit. Apparently, the coolant has gone bad — or as we say in German, “gekippt.” I don’t think there’s a perfect English translation for that.
When coolant has been stored for too long, the ingredients start sticking together. Then, at some point, the loop ends up looking exactly like in your pictures. This can happen with any coolant.
It can also occur if old and new coolant are mixed, or if the system wasn’t flushed properly before filling. There are many possible causes.
Either way, it’s nothing unusual and nothing dramatic — just an annoying issue because of the effort needed to fix it.

Thank you eddy for your reply and tips. per mail and here.

So, I got alphacool cleaner, 5 liters of demineralized water and your new pre mix.

It was indeed an annoying issue to fix, drain, fill cleaner 2.5 hours running, then: I had to fill and flush 3 times to get clean water out of the system. so a good 5 hours of work. And not fully done jet. But I am leaving the last demineralized water in the loop for a night, flush it tomorrow, then put in the new filter and the new alphacool fluid so another hour about.

The first flush after the cleaner was white, kinda a shock how much dirt came out. so really happy i did this.
Did i get everything out No, the guide tells me to disassemble the parts, and get my brush. But i am not gone that another 2 hours work.
There a small bit of stain left around the gpu fins. but i think i got about 98% clean, so i am happy with the result.

Please add a expire date on your bottles i could not find one,
Ek also did not have a expire date on theirs, but i got it at a sale so it was probably old stock.

There’s no direct expiration date for liquids, which is why none is printed. In general, the water will always react with something inside the loop, and that’s when these kinds of issues occur. Keep in mind, the loop is never ultra-pure. Even if you flush everything beforehand, it’s simply not clinically clean. Something can always happen. That’s why the system should be maintained regularly.
If you want it to be almost maintenance-free, you’d have to use something like our GL50 Liquid. But with that, you lose a few degrees of cooling performance because the extreme additives don’t transfer heat particularly well.
Even then, it’s no guarantee that you’ll never have to do maintenance.
