UPS Import fee question

Hi,

Just had a question about receiving orders through UPS.

I just checked the tracking status of my order and it seems that they are charging me import charges that is pretty much the value of the order itself (about 460 USD)

With DHL/UPS I was not charged any sort of fees for my order.

Aren't the import fees covered with the shipping charge when I order through the site? I had ordered through DHL/USPS before and wanted to try UPS since the box for my shipment was pretty banged up (fortunately nothing fell out).

My order number is (30201855) in case that is needed

That is absurd. For order #30199895 I need to know if I'm going to be paying double when this goes out...

Import fees are not covered by the shipping costs. These charges are always separate. You’ll need to check with customs in your own country regarding this — it’s not something we handle on our end. The import fees are not included in the shipping charge.
I can’t say why UPS is charging such a high amount in your case. We’ve never seen anything like that from customers who use DHL.

So after some digging and many calls with Customer Service, it was revealed that the order is affected by the latest tariffs by the US regarding products manufactured by China, which i am trying to get reduced.

After some additional reading, I also saw that DHL might not ship to the US due to the tariffs. But I have no way of verifying that statement. Maybe that is something to look into/consider if folks are running into issues like that? UPS unfortunately didnt tell me about the shipping charges until the DAY of the delivery.

@Eddy I can't seem to find anything right away about what happens if I refuse the shipment from UPS. Will it be returned to your company and I would get refunded?

I am concerned about this too, I cannot afford to pay double for my gpu waterblock order. I want to cancel my order if the fees are anywhere near that. My order number is 30203036

Guys unfortunately I don't think Alphacool is responsible for figuring out import/export taxes for each shipment going out to different countries since fees are usually calculated by the shipping company itself. (DHL or UPS in this case)

How do they charge you? To my knowledge I havent authorized PayPal to pay any import fees.

It's UPS that's charging me the fees before the actual delivery. So they'll come by with the package and ask for payment. Again it's not Alphacool doing that it's the shipping company.

I'm currently trying to figure out how I can get them reduced and pretty much swear off UPS since even the folks here mention that UPS charges some crazy fees or causes difficulty

Thanks for replying, if you don't mind my asking, what did you order and how long did they take to ship? They said 2 to 3 days on my order but if UPS tries to charge me double they can just take it back.

Yes you will get a refund for the total order.

Back in the day, it actually took 2–3 days with UPS. Nowadays, it can take significantly longer, mostly because customs clearance takes much more time now.
With DHL, delivery times also vary a lot. Sometimes it takes a week, sometimes even up to 3 weeks. The long delivery times aren’t just due to customs, but also because of USPS, the domestic shipping service DHL hands the package over to. They’re often extremely slow.
That all used to be much faster back in the day.

I'm currently facing the same issue.
Ordered with UPS Express shipping and the fees that UPS claims is $204, that is the same amount that was my order total from alphacool itself.

Hate to hear that, Alphacool just emailed me they are preparing to ship my order. If Ups pulls something like that I'll just tell them to ship it back. The email said DHL was the shipper and there is a DHL terminal 13 miles away so hopefully the package isn't turned over to UPS if they are the ones causing this. I'll update this post when I get more info.

@Eddy I have some questions about refusing a shipment. if I were to refuse my shipment from ups and then it would be delivered back to you, would then alphacool have to pay any of the import fees in question making me ineligible for a refund? Would i still have to end up paying the import fees myself or would UPS? And would i have to pay for the shipment go get shipped back to germany or would that be done automatically by UPS? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Eddy has already answered this question. No import fees would be due since nothing was imported. He stated that the customer would get a full refund.

I have just been hit with import charges and this is wrong. UPS have lodged a query with the customs handlers to get this charge removed.

My product is one of the new 9070XT waterblocks. My receipt from Alphacool gives the HTS Import Code 8419508090
I am receiving this product from DE into UK. Here is the UK government's information for this import code: https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/8419508090

This waterblock is NOT a nuclear reactor...

@Eddy this is not the correct HTS code for a personal use, domestic, watercooling block for a PC component. If Alphacool has recently updated their shipping details to include this code it would explain why people are starting to get import tax claims made against them.

The customs tariff number is correct — it has always been used and is appropriate. We've been doing this for 20 years. I can only repeat that we are currently not receiving any such feedback from customers who order via DHL. Why that is, I can't say.

OK, thanks.
I have ordered a waterblock from you in the past and I didn't have this issue at the time.
Maybe UPS have given control of import duties to a dodgy LLM...
