Just wanted to give an update here for posterity: I was getting all ready to machine down the screw hole to be countersunk... And I noticed that they are countersunk to begin with! It's basically the screws that are wrong... To be clear, there are 5 holes on the backplate, and 4 are countersunk...

I started to install the alphacool 3090 FE waterblock today into my SFF build. One problem I quickly realized is that the backplate pushes right to the edge of the PCI-E slot, which, on an ITX board, means that it's right up to the edge of M.2 heatsink, and the shroud over back I/O area...
