Does Alphacool plan waterblock for AMD AI PRO R9700?

Hi,

I was wondering, if Alphacool is planning to make waterblocks (even on order) for the AMD AI PRO R9700.

Reason is quite a few of us in home AI server market, plan to get several of them (4-5) and would love to know if a waterblock is planned to be available some time in the future or not :)

Thank you

At the moment, there are no coolers planned for the 9700 Pro. I can’t say yet whether we’ll make any in the future, but even if we do, they wouldn’t be released before Q2 2026.

Hi Eddy,

If AMD R9700 is using 9070XT reference design board, shouldn't a reference 9070XT block be compatible with it? Unfortunately the only source for this information is a picture of the R9700 heatsink from Gigabyte and looks exactly the same with your 9070XT reference block.

If that's the case, I am sure a big company like Alphacool should be able to get some details from AMD about it? (and possibly information about active cooling the backplate too?)

Thank you

AMD isn’t really interested in companies like us. The contact exists, but the information we receive is rather sporadic, if not nonexistent.

There is no RX 9070XT reference design. AMD sells the chips, and the board partners then design their own PCBs. The R9700 does have an AMD PCB layout, but so far no cooler is in development for it. We’re still looking for someone who can send us one through “https://shop.alphacool.com/en/send-it-and-get-one-cooler-for-free”.

Apparently there’s no demand for it. Otherwise, we would usually be flooded with graphics cards so we can make coolers for them.

I appreciate it.

Dear Alphacool-Team.

I have an ASUS Turbo Radeon Ai Pro 9700 with 32GB RAM.

The GPU is very very loud, even in idle (original: 30% fan speed minimum at 2000 rpm with a 75mm radial fan).

Different to the 9070xt cards, as far as i know, all Radeon AI Pro 9700 share the same REFERENCE LAYOUT (Asrock, Sapphire, ASUS, Gigabyte, XFX, Supercolor, ...) , i would really appreciate if you could offer an watercooling block.
(Only difference between the Manufacturers: 75 or 80mm Fan, special pads, or the pcb has 4x DP an 0x HDMI, or 3x DP and 1x HDMI.)

Maybe one of the existent watercooling blocks for the radeon 9070XT would potentially fit?

When I look closely to the picture you have of several 9070XT PCB design, i see some similarites to:
- Alphacool Core RX 9070 XT Swift + Quick (holes on the bottom side/near pcie connector)
- Alphacool Core RX 9070 XT TUF + Prime with Backplate (holes on the bottom side/near pcie connector)

I would definitely buy a waterblock.
-> Worldwide I could not find a single aftermarket cooler or waterblock for ANY Radeon AI Pro 9700. -> Alphacool: This is your chance!

Best regards from GERMANY.

We are currently working on a Pro 9700 cooler. However, it is not for the Asus version, but for the Sapphire version.
We know that there are different PCB layouts. I cannot say which one Asus uses.
Unfortunately, your pictures do not help, as we need to see the bare PCB in order to compare coolers. Like this, it is impossible to see whether any cooler might fit, and if so, which one.

Thank you for your fast response - so i think it makes sense to send the ASUS back and switch over to sapphire.

I would simply remove the aluminium cooler briefly and take a picture of the PCB.
Judging by the outer screws, it could be the same PCB design as Sapphire. But that would probably be the easiest option before sending the card back.
Since the cover has already been removed, the warranty is gone either way.

I will do later:
I did not break any seals for the photos until now - there is just one sticker on one of the 4 screws of the cooler-block. (You see it on the 2nd/backplate photo)

Do you have a pcb photo of the sapphire radeon 9700, so I can compare?

(One reason I bought ASUS: In Germany they seem to be open for changing coolers - the warranty should be still valid if the gpu did not break because of a changed cooler. For RMA you have to reinstall the original cooler)

My comparison:
- a lot of smd pads near the pcie-connector, which asus does not have
- the pwm connector for the fan is at a different position (ASUS: near R15 on photo top left)
- the junction pads on the top edge of the photo are different (ASUS has a lot of soldered pads there)
- photo bottom right: Asus has a HDMI connector there instead of the 4th DP

But:
- The plated screw holes seem to be at the exact same position
- GPU die at same position
- ASUS Layout also has four plated thru-holes top right near PCIe lock, where no jumper pins are soldered.

Is there a potential ETA for the sapphire cooler? (Days/Weeks/Months?)

It would be easier if you could show a picture of the Asus PCB here, as many components are irrelevant for a water cooler.
I cannot give you an ETA. We only recently received the Sapphire card, so it will still take some time before the cooler becomes available.

Here you go. Hopefully it works.
You should allow heic and bigger file sizes....
If you want in full quality, please give me an email address to send them to.

Great, thanks for the pictures. The PCB layout looks basically the same. The only thing giving me a bit of a headache right now is a power connector—I can't tell if that's going to be a problem. I'll have to wait and see how things develop.

Thats the FAN Connector. (Sapphire has it near "PCON1")

Maybe you could just let this area "uncooled", because as far as i see, there is just the R10/R15 inductor, which should be nearly identically positioned.
(The original cooling block only cools GPU Die, Ram and Fets)

I think R10/R15 belong to Voltage Sensing or fan circuit. (It draws around 2A at 12V).

(Interesting: The Asus PCB has also soldering Pads for 4th DP connector.)

Our development team is asking for a picture without the thermal pads and a picture of the back side.
Apparently, there may also be components there that could be critical.
The R10/15 are not relevant; those are coils and are not actively cooled. The monitor connector is also not relevant.
The connector at the back is not a problem. We also have the PCB layout of another card where this connector is present, so that will be taken into account.
