Just completed my first custom loop, I would assume it's a closed system similar to a AIO, however I've noticed that accessories for a custom loop gives you an option for a Fill Cap with a breather hole. Is this necessary? What are the advantages if any? Thanks for reading & your thoughts.

Apologize for not quite understanding but this sounds confusing to me. You said they are only necessary if you don't have a reservoir, that would mean a completely sealed out of the box AIO like Corsair makes correct, which don't have a reservoir. I have a reservoir in my system, a Alphacool Rise Flat w/D5 w/VPP755 Pump.
Since posting this question I've read that they are sometimes necessary to release heat build up in the system if you run a system that produces a lot of heat, the pressure valve releases the high pressure build up. I would think it would be the opposite of what you said and it would apply to reservoirs that could potentially have high heat retained in the system.
Can you clarify for better understanding? This is my first custom loop & in that learning curve.

a pressure valve is only needed to remove high pressure from your system. WArm water is expanding, so you will need a part where the air can move to. This funktion is the Job of a reservoir, where the air will move to. If you don´t have a reservoir, you will need the pressure valve, so that the air can move out.
