Horizontal mounting of Alphacool Core 70 reservoir

Hello,

I would like to use the Alphacool Core 70 reservoir with D5 pump in a horizontal mounting position inside a custom desk PC build.

Is horizontal mounting fully supported?

If yes, what would be the recommended configuration for:

  • pump OUT port,
  • pump IN port,
  • return line from the loop,
  • and filling/bleeding the reservoir?
My idea is:

  • use the OUT port as normal output to the loop,
  • use the IN port at the top as the fill/bleed port,
  • and use one of the ports on the opposite side of the reservoir as the return from the loop.
Would this configuration work correctly without the pump drawing air?

Thank you.

In general, this is not a good idea with any tube reservoir. The water column is supposed to prevent air from reaching the pump. However, when the reservoir is installed horizontally, it is quite likely that air bubbles can reach the pump.

You would therefore need to fill the reservoir almost completely. In principle, it will work, but it is still not something I would recommend.

The port configuration will work. However, bleeding the loop will be a nightmare. I would recommend keeping the reservoir upright while bleeding the loop until all the air has left the system. Then fill the reservoir as much as possible, and only then place it horizontally.
