Hello everyone,
I’m looking for advice regarding the performance of my AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X during Corona rendering.
System specifications:
During rendering:
Before installing the Alphacool, I used another 360 mm AIO cooler. That cooler also reached around 95 °C, so I replaced it expecting significantly better cooling performance. Unfortunately, with the new Eisbaer Pro Aurora 360, temperatures are even higher.
My questions are:
I’m looking for advice regarding the performance of my AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X during Corona rendering.
System specifications:
- AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X (completely stock, no overclock)
- ASUS ROG Strix TRX40-XE Gaming
- 64 GB DDR4-3200 CL16
- Windows 10 Pro
- Alphacool Eisbaer Pro Aurora 360 (brand new)
During rendering:
- CPU temperature stays between 95 °C and 100°C, occasionally reaching 105 °C.
- CPU Package Power is around 214–220 W.
- Average Effective Clock is only around 3.3 GHz, even though the processor should normally boost much higher under full load.
- HWiNFO reports no Thermal Throttling.

My questions are:
- Is it normal for a stock Threadripper 3970X to run at 95–100 °C (sometimes up to 105 °C) during Corona rendering?
- Could these temperatures be the reason why my Average Effective Clock remains around only 3.3 GHz?
- What temperatures and effective clock speeds are other Threadripper 3970X users seeing during Corona Renderer?
- Does anything in these results suggest that my cooling system may not be performing as expected?
