Compatibility of D5 Core RAM cooler with DDR5 RDIMM

As in the subject - can I use the D5 DDR5 modules with LRDIMM/RDIMMs (Registered DIMMs, or server memory, they are different from desktop UDIMM modules, and pin-incompatible). The DDR5 RDIMM modules have pretty prominent VRM elements on the center of the module, with thickness of up to 2 mm on each side, with total thickness at the center of almost 5 mm.
I would like to attach them to D-RAM X4 block, They get pretty toasty (~10W/module), and with watercooled CPU there is very little air movement around the area, and I am running into memory throttling with heavier workloads.

And if not - are there any dedicated to RDIMM ones?

HI,

I am sorry but the DDR5 RAM coolers are not compatible with LRDIMM/RDIMMs.

Thank you!

Do you think it would be possible to mod the coolers, for examply by adding a shim to widen the distance between side plates and thicker thermal pads?

I am sorry but I can´t say, if it will be possible to modify the product. Something like this, will also void your warranty.

why not compatible
Due to marked components - part of integrated PMIC. These components stick out 2 millimeters above PCB on each side, bringing total thickness over what D-RAM can accommodate - you can't slide the plates further apart.

I am sorry for resurrecting the thread, but has anything changed in last 1.5 years?
I believe Apex/Core line has been introduced since then, I remember seeing only D-Ram line of coolers.

As we had no demand for coolers for this type of ram, we put the whole thing on hold and turned our attention to other projects. So no, nothing has changed.

I'd like to revive this thread, as I'm also looking for a DDR5 RDIMM cooling block. What is so different between a 'desktop' DDR5 and a DDR5 RDIMM module? Does the 17631 Alphacool Core DDR5-RAM module really not support DDR5 RDIMM modules like Micron MTC40F204WS1RC56BB1R 96GB 5600MT/s PC5-44800 DIMM 288-pin DDR5 ?

@akosmaroy
The standard DDR5 coolers also fit RDIMM variants, as there are no technical differences in terms of dimensions. This thread was about the 8-slot RAM cooler and its further development. The regular DDR5 coolers can also be used with RDIMM modules.

Thank you for the confirmation. But, can you please reconfirm a second time, as your product page says otherwise:

The main issue with server motherboards is that the spacing between the slots is much tighter than on standard consumer motherboards. As a result, the coolers do not fit in between the slots. In addition, the water blocks on top also won’t fit, as the screw spacing no longer matches.
If your intended use is on a server motherboard with full slot population, then you won’t be able to use these coolers.

I'm using an ASUS WS WRX90-E SAGE board, it seems to have 'desktop-style' spacing. but I can measure it - what distance does the cooling block need between the memory modules?

I can’t say that off the top of my head right now, and at the moment I also don’t have any way to check it again. Your best option would be to ask our support team at info@alphacool.com.
They will probably have to check with the development department as well. I honestly haven’t had this question even once in the past few years, sorry.
